Discover your Self-Healing Potential

This unique, inspiring and life-changing course runs twice a year, in May and November.

Combining the talents of Gam Thi Hong Ngo, Founder of Awakening Vitality and Gary Green, Director of the Culture of Peace Institute, this four-week program is designed to awaken the natural healing abilities of the body, mind and spirit and to develop, through awareness, a new path to health.

“The idea for this course was inspired by the lives of the old Shaolin monks,” says Gary. “How they combined, in their daily practice, mastery of the body with the study of philosophy and meditation. This course is aligned to that experience to some degree – but of course in a gentle and more encouraging way.”

Gam will start each session with gentle Qigong – the ancient Chinese practice of movement and breathing that originated in Shaolin to nurture the force of life or vital energy. It can be practiced in a soft, static or hard form. “The world is a stressful and fearful place,” adds Gam, “We are left with little time to heal and repair the damaging effects. Our bodies need rest, our minds search for peace, our spirits are desperate for respite. We live with the constant battle to maintain our mental and physical health. We search for balance but keep coming up against obstacles.”

A relaxed body is required for meditation. So many people say they can’t meditate, but it’s a rare person who is able to still the mind without first preparing the body for stillness.

This course explores the relationship between body, mind, emotions and spirit. In addition to the life-changing effects of Qigong, the course covers mindfulness and insight meditation and how to use these tools to identify and build life-habits that nurture well-being and health.  In the search for our own truth, we start a process of healing whose influence can affect the wider world.

“A soul that is strong is recognized through its character,” explains Gary. “Kindness, generosity, compassion and love are the obvious examples that come to mind, but there are many others too, such as determination, honesty, assertiveness, courage, integrity and self-confidence. Each one of us exerts an influence. That influence can be positive or negative. The creation of a culture of peace begins with our own state of being. A state expressed inwardly through physical, mental and emotional health, and outwardly in the way we respond to others. The individual affects friends and family, the family contributes to the strength of the community and the community exerts an influence on the wider society.”

As our World grows more uncertain, we risk becoming more divided, more antagonistic, more susceptible to discord. Internally we suffer from stress, anxiety, material focus and competition. These influences have a damaging impact on many aspects of our lives. The intention of this course is to create in our own lives the foundations of peace while developing a growing understanding of self.
